Our Fraternity and Sorority Community

Our fraternity and sorority community has a rich tradition at the University of Kentucky, dating back to the 1890s and continuing to provide support, friendship, and leadership to the UK community.

We currently have over 50 social fraternities and sororities. Our organizations are members of governing councils that assist with events and programs, communication, recruitment activities, and student advocacy. Our community has over 5,900 members across 4 governing councils.

The governing councils here at UK are the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council, and United Greek Council. These four councils consist of student leaders from their respective communities striving to meet the mission and vision of our community as a whole and to strive to attain what is wildly possible here at the University of Kentucky.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

The University of Kentucky National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the coordinating body for the nine historically African-American fraternities and sororities. The council organizes educational programs and community service projects for members and the larger university community, as well as the annual Homecoming Step Show.

United Greek Council

Established in 2014, the University of Kentucky’s United Greek Council(UGC) aims to foster a unique and vibrant community on its campus. With 9 organizations, from multicultural to special interest, the UGC is ever-growing and has a place for everyone. We all have the same values, with different roots.

Panhellenic Council

The Panhellenic Council at the University of Kentucky is the governing body of 14 National Panhellenic Conference sororities. Panhellenic works with the member chapters to coordinate activities such as the Women's Leadership Conference, Panhellenic Primary Recruitment in the fall, and monthly philanthropic events.

The Order of Omega is a leadership honor society for members of Fraternity & Sorority organizations. Order of Omega recognizes upperclassmen who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and the Fraternity/Sorority, campus, and local community. Members share the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.

Members are selected from the top 5 percent of students at each institution. To date, over 500 chapters have been chartered throughout North America, each sharing the common goal of recognizing the many outstanding student leaders at their institution.
