Philanthropy: Each year ATO hosts Greek Sing with the ladies of Chi Omega. This event benefits the local Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana chapter of Make-A-Wish. This is the largest run Greek philanthropy event on UK's campus, and has recently hit $1 million in total donations to this chapter. Mini Masters is a putt-putt tournament that takes place each year, which also benefits Make-A-Wish.

National History

Alpha Tau Omega was founded at Virginia Military Institute in 1865 by Otis Allan Glazebrook, Alfred Marshall, and Erskine Mayo Ross in the wake of the Civil War. We were founded on Christian principles and the idea behind the fraternity was to reunite men from the North and South in brotherhood. We are known as America’s Leadership Development Fraternity. Through the leadership of notable early ATOs such as Thomas Arkle Clark and Joseph R. Anderson, Glazebrook’s vision grew into the strong national presence we know today. Notable alumni include Guy Fieri (UNLV), Lee Corso (Florida State), and Cris Collinsworth (Florida).

Local History

Founded in 1909, the Mu Iota Chapter of ATO calls UK home. Members of a UK society known as the "Midnight Imps" were the founders of ATO at Kentucky. Our chapter was granted special permission to be named Mu Iota in order to keep the "MI" from "Midnight Imps". We are proud of our long history of being on campus, and we feel privileged to be a part of such a long-standing tradition. Our charter features the signature of Otis Allan Glazebrook, one of our three founders. Since moving into our house at 441 Pennsylvania Ave, we have experienced a period of dramatic growth. Over the past few years, we have gotten larger in number and increased our involvement on campus and our contributions to the community. Our philanthropy efforts have been consistently on the rise, and we are proud to be 3-time defending champions in intramurals. We strive to continue to uphold our founders’ vision of uniting men from all walks of life in our strong brotherhood. Notable Mu Iota alumni include Bugs Bunny (1947) and Joe B. Hall (1948).

The Creed of Alpha Tau Omega

To bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself and as lasting as humanity; to know no North, no South, no East, no West, but to know man as man, to teach that true men the world over should stand together and contend for supremacy of good over evil; to teach, not politics, but morals; to foster, not partisanship, but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to have no narrower limits within which to work together for the elevation of man than the outlines of the world: these were the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds of the founders of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
